Dear friends in Scouting,
To the millions of Scout volunteers around the world, today we want to wish you a very happy International Volunteer Day! Thank you for the time, energy and commitment you devote to this extraordinary global Movement, and for everything you contribute to keep Scouting active and growing in your communities.
As volunteers you have shown amazing leadership, strength and resilience this past year by stepping up in incredible ways to provide more opportunities for young people to experience the life-changing impact of Scouting. You have also lived up to the Scout Promise by helping other people, and serving your communities in times of need both locally and nationally.
Today there are close to 5 million volunteers who are active in over 1 million communities worldwide delivering Scouting’s Youth Programme to 57 million young people. And every year more and more volunteers are joining our Movement by working with National Scout Organizations, getting involved in Scouting events, training new Adult Leaders, and enabling more young people to be part of Scouting in a safe and inclusive environment.

This year also saw nearly 1,000 volunteers apply through an open call to be involved at the world level in helping to expand Scouting’s reach, impact and influence this triennium.
So thank you once again for the inspiration, commitment, creativity and passion you continue to offer to this Movement.
In the spirit of celebrating volunteers, please join us as we award this year’s Messengers of Peace Heroes to recognise the outstanding contributions of young people towards peace and sustainable development. The Messengers of Peace Hero Awards ceremony will be live-streamed on WOSM’s Facebook page on Monday, 6 December at 1:00 PM GMT.
